Right, that’s it. Coherence has officially made its way onto my list of all-time favourite films. 

I first watched it back in 2023 and it absolutely blew my mind. Watching it again reminded me why I loved it so much in the first place. It also confirmed my long-held belief that low-budget films often have the best ideas. 

It sits comfortably alongside films like Primer, Cube and Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes. They all have that same eerie feeling where something isn’t quite right, and the less you know going in, the better. 

What surprised me most was how quickly it hooked me. Within minutes of the dinner party starting, I was already deciding who I liked, who I didn’t trust and who was definitely talking about people behind their backs. For a while, it felt like I was watching an especially awkward episode of The Bear. 

Then the comet arrives. 

And everything changes. 

I’m deliberately avoiding spoilers because this is one of those rare films where discovering what’s happening is half the fun. What starts as a slightly uncomfortable dinner party slowly turns into something much stranger, much cleverer and much more unsettling. 

The tension keeps building, the questions keep coming and every answer somehow creates three new questions. 

By the time the ending arrived, my brain felt like it had been put through a washing machine. 

In the best possible way. 

What made this rewatch even better was watching it with my son, who’s now old enough to appreciate films like this. Seeing somebody experience all those twists and turns for the first time almost felt like watching it for the first time myself. 

If you’ve never seen Coherence, do yourself a favour and go in completely blind. Trust me. 

You’ll be seeing double. 

Or maybe more than double.

Iconic! Dr. No is a great film, it's dated now but it was a head of its time in the 60s. Sean Connery made the perfect 1st Bond. 4/5

I had really high hopes for Skyfall.

Maybe that was the problem.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good film. In fact, it's a very good film. It has action, adventure, espionage, explosions and enough globe-trotting to keep any travel agent happy.

But as a Bond film?

I'm not convinced.

The strange thing is that all the ingredients are there. Daniel Craig is excellent, the cinematography is stunning and some of the action sequences are among the best in the series.

Yet something felt missing.

I never got that classic Bond buzz.

You know the feeling. The gadgets. The villains. The swagger. The sense that you're watching the world's coolest spy doing things that would get most people arrested within minutes.

Skyfall felt different.

I wasn't particularly invested in the villain, and despite all the praise Javier Bardem received for his performance, the character never really clicked with me. He felt eccentric, but not especially threatening.

I also struggled with the new Q.

Perhaps I was too attached to the previous version, but I never quite warmed to him. It felt like Bond had traded in a workshop full of gadgets for a bloke with a laptop and a strong Wi-Fi signal.

The biggest issue for me is that Skyfall almost feels like a setup for the Bond film that comes afterwards.

It's as if the film spends two and a half hours rebuilding the world of James Bond rather than fully embracing it.

By the end, I found myself thinking:

"Right. Now can we have a proper Bond film?"

Which is a strange reaction to have after watching a James Bond film.

It's entertaining, beautifully made and undeniably well-crafted.

I just wanted a little more Bond in my Bond.

Shaken, not stirred.

"A little to the right, I've got an itch..."

Right from the opening scenes the premise for the new style James bond has been set. They've taken things back to basics I mean how could you beat an Invisible Aston Martin? Flying car maybe.

It starts at the beginning of James Bond's 007 Career where James actually got into a fight, as if James would get his Savile Row suit dirty!

The film is what you would expect from a Bond film, plenty of action, adventure, some great comedy moments, awesome technology, beautiful women, cars, guns and epic explosions.

Die another day will always be my favourite Bond film but damn, this is pretty close. 5/5
